July 19 is the deadline to pre-register

Voters need to complete the registration process by Tuesday, July 19, in order to be pre-registered to vote in the Aug. 9 Primary Election. Although voters in Minnesota can register to vote at the polling place, pre-registering can make the voting process smoother and faster. Pre-registered voters don't have to wait in a separate line to complete their registration, and are not required to bring any documents with them to their polling place. In addition, when a voter registers, they are sent a postcard with information about their assigned polling place and how to go vote on Election Day.

Registration can be completed online through the application managed by the Secretary of State at https://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/VoterRegistration/VoterRegistrationMain.aspx. The deadline for online applications is 11:59 p.m.

If you prefer to submit a paper application, those are available to be downloaded in multiple languages at http://vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/REGISTER, and must be submitted to an elections office by 5 p.m. on July 19.
