Oct. 18 is the deadline to pre-register

Today is the pre-registration deadline for voters in Minnesota. If you are registering to vote, you need to submit a paper application to an election office before 5 p.m. today or complete the online application by 11:59 p.m.

Pre-registering will save you time when you go to vote, either at an Early Vote Center or at your polling place on Election Day. In Minnesota, if you are registered to vote it is not necessary to bring any documents with you to vote. All voters are encouraged to pre-register to ensure a smoother voting experience.

Voters also need to update their registration any time they move, change their name, or haven't voted in more than four years. If you aren't sure if you are registered to vote at your current name and address, you can check your registration status online.

If you do not pre-register, it is still possible to register when you vote. You will need to provide an accepted proof of residence in order to complete the registration process when voting.
