For each election year, we produce a candidate information packet that: 

  • Summarizes elections laws
  • Lists important election dates
  • Shares helpful contact information

The 2024 candidate packet will be available by May 2024.

Fair campaign practices and finance rules

Campaign finance reports

Minnesota Statutes Chapter 211A governs campaign finance reporting requirements for local candidates.

If you are a potential candidate and you raise or spend more than $750 in a calendar year, submit your Initial Report. You will continue reporting until you qualify to submit your Final Report for that campaign. You do not need to report until you raise or spend more than $750.

Violations of M.S. 211A or M.S. 211B, which involve campaign finance and fair practices, can be filed with the Office of Administrative Hearings.
