Candidate filing fees and petition signatures

At the time of filing, you must pay a fee or submit a petition with signatures.

Filing fees

You can pay the filing fee by cash or check. Checks should be made out to City of Minneapolis.

Petition in place of a filing fee

Instead of paying a fee, you can collect signatures from eligible voters. The number of signatures needed is 500 or five percent of the total number of votes cast in the previous election for that office, whichever is less.

Signature petitions must meet legal standards. These include submission on no larger than legal size paper.
