How Can I Help?

Support voting within your community

A community guide to Elections

We at Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services are proud of our community. Every election year, Minneapolis sees strong voter turnout and residents who step up — whether by serving at a polling place or helping a neighbor request a ballot. As our office motto says: Your City. Your Vote.

Below are simple, nonpartisan ways you can support voters and help ensure a smooth and accessible election for all.

Share accurate election information

Help ensure voters have the correct details by sharing key information such as voting dates, hours, and locations. The best way to ensure accuracy is to follow and share information from official Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services sources.

Our social media platforms

Share information across languages

If you are multilingual, you can help ensure important election information reaches members of your community.

Encourage people to make a voting plan

Remind others to decide in advance when and how they will vote whether early, by mail, or on Election Day.

Help others explore voting options

Some may not be aware of all available options. For example, curbside voting allows eligible voters to vote from their vehicle if they are unable to enter a polling place. To learn about voting options, contact 311 for assistance.

Work during early voting

Voting begins 46 days before Election Day, providing additional opportunities to support voters in person and assist with processing absentee ballots.

Serve as an Election Judge

Election Judges are essential to Election Day operations. They help check in voters, issue ballots, and support the overall voting process at polling places. We accept interest forms year-round. While we receive many applications and balance assignments based on party affiliation and community needs (such as language skills), we encourage everyone to apply—even if you are not selected right away.

Help neighbors register to vote or request an absentee mail ballot

At a voter’s request, you can help them complete a voter registration or absentee ballot application. Help them navigate the process using official resources. Use our website to find links or printable forms, or contact 311 to request a form mailed to you.

Help a neighbor return their absentee mail ballot

Voters may need assistance returning their completed ballot. Be sure to follow all applicable state guidelines when helping with ballot return.

Offer a ride to the polls

Transportation can be a barrier for some voters. Offering a ride to a neighbor or community member can help ensure they are able to vote.

Support voter outreach efforts

Volunteer or share information from trusted, nonpartisan organizations that focus on education and accessibility.
