How we count ballots

In-person absentee voting prior to 18 days before Election Day

Up until 18 days before Election Day, Minnesota election law requires that you put your completed ballot into several envelopes. Your ballot must stay in the envelopes until closer to Election Day, when we will open and process it. This is the same process had you voted by mail.

Early voting during the 18 days before Election Day

During the last 18 days before Election Day, Minnesota election law allows you put your ballot directly into the ballot counter. This is the same way you would vote on Election Day.

Either way, you will leave with an ‘I Voted Early’ sticker.

Early voting locations closed on Election Day

Early voting locations are closed on Election Day. On Election Day, you must vote at your assigned polling place.
