About the Elections Office

Take a look at what happens behind the scenes of an election.

Our Mission

We champion civic participation for all Minneapolis citizens through accurate, fair, and accessible elections. We strive to be leaders in election administration through innovation and collaboration.

We're a division of the Office of the City Clerk. Working with the other City Clerk divisions, we support access to local government. We all work together to best serve the residents of Minneapolis and our voters.

Our Work

We administer local, state, and federal elections for Minneapolis voters. Our estimated population is 430,000 with about 270,000 registered voters. Behind Hennepin and Ramsey County, we are the third largest voting jurisdiction in the state.

In Minnesota, elections are a shared responsibility. The state, counties, and cities work together to manage the election process. Specifically, we work with the Office of the Secretary of State and Hennepin County for different parts of each election.

Our goal is to ensure our voters have free, impartial, and fair access to the ballot box.

The City Clerk serves as the chief elections official for Minneapolis and oversees a dedicated team of election administrators. The team runs the election programs shown below with the support of dozens of seasonal staff members and hundreds of election judges.
